Show Funeral Service For John R. Blackham Very impressive funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for John R. Blackham, Bishop of the Moroni East ward, with Counselor Morgan Lamb in charge. The choir sang, "I Know That My Redeemer Re-deemer Lives," with William Swenson as soloist, "I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go, Dear Lord," (a favorite of Bishop Blackham's) and "Sometime Well Understand." Under-stand." The prayers were offered by Patriarch Orlando Bradley and President Joseph Christiansen of Fountain Green. The speakers were N. P. Soren-sen, Soren-sen, Daniel Anderson, James Prestwich, President E. L. Irons and Morgan Lamb of Moroni, James L. Nielsen of Fountain Green, Aurthur Coombs, Alvin Sorensen and R. K. Hardy of the Western Life Insurance Company, of Salt Lake City. Mrs. Lawrence Larsen and Mrs. Floyde Sperry sang "There's Room For All," accompanied ac-companied by Everett Larsen. "A Perfect Day" was sung by Miss Grace Blackham accompanied by Mrs. Ophelia Rhodes. Miss Vivian Anderson played an organ solo, "Just a Wearian For You." The grave was dedicated by James Larsen. The pall-bearers were: Dr. B. C Linbaugh of Pleasant Grove, Gilbert Gil-bert Bailey of Nephi, Alvin Sorensen Soren-sen of Salt Lake City and Rodney Anderson, Lloyde Blackham and N. P. Sorensen of Moroni. Bishop Blackham passed away at the L. D. S. hospital in Salt Lake City following an operation for tumor of the ear caused from a fall when he was a small boy. He was a son of John and Matilda Ma-tilda Larsen Blackham. He married mar-ried Hannah Christensen October 18, 1905. (She is commonly known as Daisey.) He spent two years of his married life in the Eastern states mission and served two terms as mayor of Moroni. In 1920 he was chosen as second counselor to Bishop Daniel Anderson Ander-son in 1929 first counselor to Bishop E. L. Irons and in September, Sep-tember, 1931 he was made Bishop of the East ward. He was loved and honored by every member of his ward. He was an agent of the Western West-ern Life Insurance Company and was employed in the Moroni Coop Co-op at the time of his death. He was the first president of the ijions ciud ot Moroni. He was also al-so a member of the 1847 Harmonica Harmon-ica Band that provides entertainment entertain-ment in Moroni and for Black Hawk encampment each year. He was a man that will be missed very much in the community. His many friends and relatives mourn his loss greatly. Friends gathered from far and near to attend the services and to show their respect to the family. fam-ily. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Besides his wife and mother he is survived by the following children: chil-dren: Edgel R. Blackham of Los Angeles, California; J. Howard, Paul, Eugene and Mary Jewel of Moroni; one grandchild and the following brothers and . sisters, Lewis L. Blackham, Mrs. Elmo Irons, Mrs. Ernest Anderson of Moroni; Mrs. Nellie Morley and Mrs. Clyde B. Hiller of Salt Lake City; Mrs. I. M. Draper of Gen-ola Gen-ola and one foster sister, Mrs. Nida Bradley of Salt Lake City. |
