Show FOREST FIRE STARTS HT ROAD CAMP HUNTINGTON CANYON The fir-.t fire in 1 M2G to occur on the Manti Forest happened on May 2 1 in Huntington canyon. One of the contractors, in burning brush from night of way, left a fire unattended unat-tended during the noon hour A vn;le t. -eeze sprang up and the contractor, con-tractor, who was forced to put his em.;ie crew on tho lire worked the fill ai'ie; noon to hold it. Spairks fi'O'iii the fire started numerous fires within a radius of 200 yards and it required almost superhuman efforts to keep it from getting into the heavy timbeir and dead slash on the adjacent adjac-ent mountain side. The contractor and h'S entire force were busily engaged en-gaged in putting out the fire when Ran.-rer Thomas and the Supervisor ar,"ived on the scene. In granting permiviion to burn brush -in the right of way, the Ranger cautioned tho contractor to be very careful, since the ground cover was very dn-y. After the fire had been placed under con-t con-t rrl, the contractor practically admitted admit-ted that even mud would burn. No treat damage was done. However, the necessity of being careful with '"in was brought home not only to the contractor but to all forest users. The fire season is now on. It -will therefore be up to the Forest Officers of the west side of the forest at least to provide themselves with the nes-sary nes-sary tools which should 'be carried with them at all -times. |
