Washington. Fraternalism as a "strong reliance of ordered government, govern-ment, according to public law," was eulogized Friday by President Cool idge in an address to a delegation representing the National Fraternal congress. "The rituals of nearly all fraternal frater-nal organizations," Mr. Coolidge said, "are based upon religion. No true fraternity can rest on any other conception. con-ception. It is for these reasons that they are supporters of the true aims of society, strong reliances of ordered order-ed government, according to public law, able advocates of the cause of righteousness and religion, and effective effec-tive promoters of peace and good will among the nations of the earth." The president characterized the spirit of brotherhood as the "fundamental "funda-mental principle of our country." As i result, he said, there is a "very great deal more of equality in America Amer-ica than is yet appreciated." He nam ed the elemental virtues- necessary to success as including industry, loyalty, faith and fellowship. "Not to have faith in our fellow men." he continued, "is not to have faith in ourselves. It is to deny our mutual dependence upon each other I and upon a divine power. We live ir nn ordered universe ruled bv law and by the guiding power of providence. provi-dence. Not to hold faith appears to me to attempt to fight against the tars in their courses. Such resistance resist-ance must end in destruction. Faith n God is the beginning of religion." |
