Show Just an indication of the popularity popular-ity of the Utah exhibition with livestock live-stock men throughout the country is found in two early entries received last week by Mr. Holmes. One is from the Lillard Stock farm, Arlington, Arling-ton, Texas, entering 85 head of hogs an exceptionally large exhibit to come from so great a distance. Another An-other hog entry is of ten head from J. H. McAnaw, Cameron. Mo. An additional feature for the fair was booked last week ,when arrangements arrange-ments were completed for a horse show to be held in the Coliseum the last two nights of the fair, October 9 and 10. largest Dairy Exhibit Ever At Utah Fair October 3 to 10 The largest exhibition of dairy cat-tit cat-tit in the history of the Utah State Fair will be a feature of this year's fair in Salt Lake City, October 3 to 10, according to Manager Ernest S. Holmes. It is probable, according to Mr. Holmes, that the entries of Jersey Jer-sey stock alone will more than double last year's record of 178 animals. The reason for this is that the American Am-erican Jersey Cattle Club, with headquarters head-quarters in New York, has designated the Utah State Fair as the 1931 western west-ern regional Jersey Show. This will bring entries from the facous herds of the Pacific Coast and the Northwest, North-west, as well as the intermountain country, Colorado, New Mexico, Ari-aona Ari-aona and other western states. With the certain entry of these newcomers to the Utah exhibition,! Monoger Holmes and the fair board are especially anxious that Utah exhibitors ex-hibitors in the Jersey division, as, well at all other livestock divisions, send in their entry blanks without further delay. The problem today, according to Mr. Holmes, is to avoid congestion conges-tion of exhibits and to make preparation prepara-tion for the record-breaking Jersey exhibit sure to be entered. Prompt receipt re-ceipt of Utah and intermountain entries en-tries wil laid greatly in taking care of space reservations so that all may be shown to the best advantage, Several weeks ago, entry blanks were sent to all past exhibitors, the western field representative' of the Jersey Cattle Club at Portland, Ore., county agents and every bank in every county of the state. Blanks may be obtained from either of the latter two sources or direct from the Utah State Fair board, Salt -Lake City. With the designation of the Utah fair at the western regional Jersey show, the national organization has added $500 in premiums to those pasted by the fair board It is also certain that thii exhibit will bring to the Utah fair hundreds of Jersey breeders, dairymen and others from the coast and elsewhere. Hugh G. Van Pelt of Iowa, one of the outstanding judges in America, known to cattle breeders throughout the United States, will be the judge of Jerstyi and Guernseys at the Utah fair. An award from so distinguished judge is to be especially prized by exhibitors. . |
