Show Ovation Given King Rome. Victor Emmanuel II, at the expiration of the first quarter of a century of his reign, received a popular pop-ular demonstration which could leave no doubt that, whatever party differences differ-ences divide his subjects, they are still united in their satisfaction with the present monarchistic form of government gov-ernment and with having that monarchy monar-chy personified in the house of Savoy. It was a day of patriotic festivities, with a veritable rit of colors so dear to the Italian sense of gaiety and Joy-ousness. Joy-ousness. The national tri-color predominated. pre-dominated. The. participants in this manifestation were drawn from every neck and corner of the empire. Eight thousand mayors came as spokesmen for millions of subjects. |
