Show UTAH HAS HUGE TIMBEHED AREA RANKS ELEVENTH, BUT FOREST? ARE FAR REMOVED FROM RAIL CARRIERS Utilization of the Huge Timber Are? in Ashley and Uintah Forests in the Uintah Mountains Depend on Developments Ogden. While Utah ranks eleventh in the list of the states in the amount of national forest timber, the stand of timber in this state is rather far removed re-moved from railroads to make utilization utiliza-tion of it an important industrial item, it is shown by a compilation of the forest service here. Utah has 5,225,3.15,000 board feet of national forest timber which constitutes constitu-tes 95 per cent of all the timber in the slate. Most of this is found in the Ashley, Powell and Uintah national forests,' with the Powell forest having the greatest timber stand with 1,544,-GOO.OOO 1,544,-GOO.OOO board feet. The Ashley and Uintah forests have each more than 1,000,000,00 board feet. Utilization of the huge timber area in the Ashley and Uintah forests in the Uintah mountains depends largely large-ly upon the railroad developments into the Uintah basin, forest service officials offi-cials point out. The timber on the Powell forest is also a long distance from a railroad point. Marysvale is the closest station and is 100 miles from the heart of the timber region on the Aquarius plateau. This is exceptionally ex-ceptionally good timber, the forest service ser-vice says. |
