He realizes, too, that unless un-less the gears and bearings are lubricated lubri-cated periodically they will be out of commission in short order. It is a peculiar fact, however, that many of these same motorists Ignore the storage battery until it dies an unnatural un-natural death. They seem to think it will take cure of ftself. But if it is accorded as careful and regular attention at-tention as the car, many buttery ills may be prevented. Sf.onage batteries are like human beings be-ings hi that they must have 'food' and 'drink- regularly or they will weaken and their lives be shortened. By 'food' Is meant the current which must be put back by the generator. Regular inspection will tell you the condition of your battery. If It is undercharged un-dercharged the specific gravity of the electrolyte will be 1,250 or less; if it is overcharged it will be over 1,300, and the battery will show signs of excessive ex-cessive heat and spraying. The most common and ruinous abuse of the battery is to let it go 'dry.' The electrolyte solution must always completely com-pletely cover the plates in all cells. |
