Show DEPORTATION HEARINGS BEGUN Arizona Citizens Accused of Kidnaping Striking Miners. Tombstone, Ariz. The first day of :-ourt in the trials of 210 men, charged tvith kidnaping in connection with the :leportiitioil of 101 8 striking copper miners and their sympathizers from Jisbee, Arizona, in 1917, ended abruptly abrupt-ly Monday when County Attorney Uobert N. French declared he was, :oiisidering dismissing the charges against three defendants because of lbseut witnesses. Indications are that the defense will ask separate trials for practically all :he defendants. The state charges the defendants svitlt putting into effect a kidnaping conspiracy to deprive the deportees of their lawful rights. Resides the defendants, de-fendants, it was said by the prosecuting prose-cuting attorney that more than 1000 persons participated in the deportations, deporta-tions, rounding up the strikers and ! sympathizers, loading them into box ,-ars and sending them across the state ooundaries into New Mexico, where ater the deportees wore cared for in great camp provisioned and cared for by United States soldiers. |
