Show SPH CITY GIVES SOLDIERS A GRAND WELCOME HOME The people of Spring City gave a Home Coming Welecome to their returned re-turned soldiers Thursday evening. February Kith at the tabernacle. There was a splendid representation representa-tion of the people, who appreciated the safe return of the soldiers from the various places to which they had be ,en called. J. M. Johnson acted as master of ceremonies. The following program was given: Song Spring City choir. Invocation Bishop Samuel Allrcd. Heading Mrs. Fred C. Strate. Speech of Welcome Mayor John P. Johnson. Solo Miss Lois Allred. Remarks James W. Plain. Address Mrs. Helena R. Bunnel. Solo Kenneth Williams. Prefentation of Certificates of Appreciation C. E. Kofford. Response Clive Barney. Duet Wyroa Bunnell and Fawn Hansen. Benediction Carl Hansen. The following young men occupied seats of honor on the stand: Lamont Jensen, Floyd Brough,' Robert L. Plain, Royal Allred, Clive Barney, Err Lund, Wm. Schofield, Orlando Hansen. Frank Brough, George Crisp, Emil Nielsen, Henry Anderson, Earl Blain, Walter James, Kale Larsen, and Holley Schofield. Immediately following the exercises exer-cises at the Tabernacle, the ladies of the Red Cross tendered a banquet to the returned soldier boys at the Allred Al-lred House. The rooms were cleverly and artistically ar-tistically decorated with the National colors, as were also the place .cards, napkins, etc. The Spring City service flag occupied a prominent place in the dining room. J. M. Johnson acted as toastmaster and the following were called upon and responded: Mayor John P. Johnson, John-son, Emil Nielsen, fcr Christiansen and Robert L. Blain. A silent toast was drank to the memory of Allen Blain and Ray Sorensen, who died while in the service. The banquet ended by the boys all joining in singing sing-ing a number of their camp songs. Covers were placed for thirty-nine. SPRING CITY. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Johnson entertained enter-tained in .honor of the sixteen boys from Spring City, who have returned home from the training camps and over seas, at their home on Saturday evening, February 8th. The rooms were decorated in the national colors and the same scheme being carried out in the ices and confections, while beautiful boquets of flowers formed the centerpieces for the tables. A buffet super was served by Miss Fames Allred, Miss Dollie Madsen, Dora and Mary Crawforth and Misses Margaret and Belva Johnson. Some very novel and interesting in-teresting games were played, Victo-rola Victo-rola music was also enjoyed and a ogod time by all present is reported. The following were present, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blain, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Brough, Mr. and Mrs. Royal Allred, Clive Barney, Bert Brewster" Henry Anderson, Walter Jam'es,, Err Chistiansen, Holly Schofield, George Crisp, William Schofield, Orlando Hansen, Frank Brough, Earl Blain, Emil Nielson and Caleb Larsen. Tuesday evening . the M. C. U. C. ladies entertained in honor of the sixteen six-teen boys who have returned from service in the United States Army at the Lyceum Theatre in the form of a Skating party. Refreshments were served during the evening. The Quarantine at Spring City has been lifted as is the. case with al--most all the towns in the state. There are 'no cases of Influenza here at this writing. Schools and other public places are now being conducted conduct-ed as they were last fall. There is some talk of a People's Bank, a Garage and Lumber Yard for Spring City, we need them both and it is hoped that it will develop into something more than just talk. The Allred Hotel is again open for business and the traveling public and others having occasion to stop there will find the same good service with all the good things to eat that existed before the closing at the time of the quarantine. Mrs. E. A. Billington has returned home after a short time spent visiting visit-ing with relatives in Salt La'e f'it.v- Mrs. J. F. Allred has been visiting with her daughter in Ephraim. W. E. Watson is confined to his home suffering from a severe attack of rheumatism. 'Miss Vienna Covert, Dora Allred, and Ethel James entertained for the returned soldier boys at the home of Miss Allred Friday evening, Feb. 7th. Games, music and pieasant conversations conversa-tions were features of the evening's entertainment. Delicious refreshment refresh-ment were served. Martin Olson, one of Spring City's old residents, passed away Wednesday Wednes-day morning at the home of his son, Lawrence Olson, south of the city. Death was due to general debility. Funeral services will be held for him. at one o'clock Saturday afternoon. |
