Show j Sanpete County l Extension News ! Wheat I'ertil'icsitiuii. Last week Prof. J. C. Hogenson of , the College spent three days in the County with our County Agent in-; in-; specting wheat fields for cert.fica-. cert.fica-. tion. Forty fields were visited from ' ' Axtell on the south to Fountain Gteen and Milburn in the north, it has developed that some of. the cer-titied cer-titied seed that was shipped in from Idaho last spring was not what i? was claimed to be. For this reason quite a number of our fields did not pass the inspection. Nineteen fields , were certified and twenty-one were ejected. 1-aruiers owning the fields that were rejested will be able to j head select seed and have this seiect- ed seed certified next summer. Sixteen Six-teen of the fields that were certified were Dicklow, two Turkey Red, and 1 Kan Red. Ho Cholera. Chris Larsen of Ephraim is a ho-; embusiast. He can see a .reat future fu-ture for the.hog Industry in Sanpete county. Last spring he shipped in 60 brood sows and consequently at the present time has a large number j of small pigs on his place. For soim J time he has been losing a number of his pigs. The county agent was cull- j ed in by Mr. Larsen to look over the situation. As a result a wire was J sent to Dr. Henderson, Veternarian ot the United Stales Department of ! Agriculture at Ogden. The doctoi I immediately came and diagnosed tin. case. It was pronounced a mild case of Cholera. This is no reflection on Mr. Larsen as he got the infection from the sows that he shipped in. He is now taking steps to clear up the trouble. If farmers of the county coun-ty will report such serious diseases dis-eases as they occur among their livestock live-stock to the county agent, assistance will be gotten from the State and i Federal Deparments. Come To Sanpete-Emery lU'iimon. From August 21 to 2 3 there will be held a reunion of Sanpete and lEmery farmers on top of the mountain moun-tain east of Ephraim. Besides the .sporting features of the program there will be igiven a number of educational ed-ucational features. Among these will be talks from Prof. John T. Cain 111. State Live-Stock Specialist from the College, Dr. W. E. Carroll, Animal Husbandman and Dr. Geo. R. Hill. Director of the School ot Agriculture and Professor of Botany and Plant Pathology. It will be time well spent for the farmers of the county to liberally lib-erally attend this reunion. C. O. SCOTT, County Agent. |
