Sharp Changes Are Expected to Be Made in Most of the Estimcte Under Revision Plans Which Republicans Repub-licans Hope to Work Out. Washington. Estimates upon which congress will make anproprialions for tin; first year of the Republican administration ad-ministration are now being prepared by the various government departments depart-ments under the direction of Democratic Demo-cratic cabinet officers and in accord with the policies of the Wilson admin-ist admin-ist ration. The estimates will be submitted to congress at the opening of the next session on December C. Since the lie-publicans lie-publicans have a majority in both the senate and house sharp changes are expected to lie made in most of the estimates under revision plans which Republican congressional leaders are expected to work out in co-operation with ol her leaders of tfie Harding administration, ad-ministration, which takes office on March 4. Estimates for all of the government departments are expected to exceed four billions of dollars, this total including in-cluding amounts for refunding portions por-tions of the public debt falling duo during the next fiscal year. The estimates esti-mates for the first fiscal year exceeded exceed-ed six billion dollars, but .these subsequently sub-sequently were reduced by something like two billion dollars. Whether all of the annual supply measures will be completed at the next nnd final session of the sixty-sixth congress remains to be determined. President-elect Harding is expected to call a special session of the new congress con-gress soon after he takes office on March 4, and it may be that some of the appropriation bills will go over to the special session. President Wilson has begun work on his annual message to congress, wiiicn win ue transmitted eitner on the opening day of the next session on December 6 or on the day following. White House officials said they had no information as to what recommendations recom-mendations the president plans to make to congress, but administration officers expect that among other things he will urge enactment of a Bumber of reconstruction messages which he recommended at the first special session of the present congress early last year. |
