Show FUNERAL SERVICES OF RASMUS USTESEN Funeral services over the remains of Rasmus Justesen, one of Spring City's earliest pioneers, who died October 21. 1917, were held in the Ward Tabernacle, Wednesday, October Octo-ber 24, at 2 o'clock, p. in. The services were presided over b Bishop Samuel Allred. The following speakers paid tribute trib-ute to the sterling worth and integrity integ-rity of the departed: Soren Peter Sorensen, Charles Whitlock of Ephraim, Eph-raim, Robert Plain, John R. Baxter, Sr., Simon T. Beck, John F. Allred and Presidents C. N. Lund and Jmin'i. W. Anderson of Mount Pleasant. The Ward choir sang several appropriate ap-propriate selections. The opening .and closing prayers were offered bj Elders John P. Johnson and John S. Blain. Rasmus Justesen, son of Lars A. and Caroline, was born on the island of Falster, Denmark, January 7, 1842. The family joined the Mormon church in '52 and imigrated to Utah, crossing the plains in Capt. John Fosgren's company, reaching Spring City October 10, 1853. They moved to Manti in December on account of Indian troubles and in the following spring went, to Ephraim and assisted 111 building the fort and constructed a two-room adobe house. He took an active part in the Black Hawk War, being captain of a company, and promoted to adjutant. adju-tant. He was in the Salina Canyon i.ar and several other skirmishes. In a civic capacity lie has served the city as councilman and mayor. As a church member he has done h.s duty faithfully and well, serving ,n various capacities. For a time he was counsellor to the Stake President of the Emery Slake of Zion, where he lesi'ded for several years. On his return to Spring City he served as Bishop's counsellor, as Head Teacher, Teach-er, as local President of the High j Priests' Quorum and as Patriarch. I If married Sarah A. Shepherd in Moroni, November 22, I860. They have nine children, Sarah E., Rasmus ; O., Joseph V., John F., Orson O.. Charles R., Osmon, Ed Mil V., and BenjaminR. His second wife was Annie Larsen. Her children art-Ruth, art-Ruth, Clara, Ernest, Nellie, Leah, Al-ta Al-ta and Bernice. His wives and children, chil-dren, except Orson O., all survive him. Few men have gone Hi rough life doing as much good and as little evil as has Patriarch Rasmus Justesen. |
