Show SUPERS HIED ToraoEwm VENERABLE LEADER REELECTED FOR THE FORTY-FIRST TIME WITHOUT OPPOSITION Eight Incumbent Vice Presidents of Body Are Chosen to Succeed Themselves; Lewis Boom Fails to Materialize Cincinnati, O., Samuel Gompers Friday was reelected president of the American Federation of LaV,r without opposition. The effort of a coalition of railroad workers, miners and others to force Gompers out colapsed early and no other candidate for president was nominated. Gompers' election was the forty, first time he has been chosen to head the federation, he having held the office during the entire life of the federation with the exception of one year. James Duncan, head of the Granite worKjrs, was elected first vice president. presi-dent. Eight incumbent vice presidents also al-so were relected. The only contest developed when Thomas F. Flaherty of Washington representing the postofflce clerks' union, was nominated to oppose the reelection of Jacob Fischer of Indian, apolis, president of the Barbers' union, un-ion, as seventh vice president. Fischer, however, was returned to office. In a second and minor contest Daniel Dan-iel F. Tobln cf Indianapolis, president presi-dent of the teamsters' union, won reelection re-election as treasurer, over Joseph S. Franklin of Kansas City, Kan., president presi-dent of the boilermakers' union. The election of officers was completed, com-pleted, except election of fraternal dlegates, by the reelection without opposition of Frank Morrison of Washington Wash-ington as secretary. He is a member of the printers' union and has been secretary for twenty-five years. Portland, Oregon, was chosen over Houston, Texas, as' the seat of the next convention of the American Fed. eration of Labor which will be held in October, 1923. |
