Appropriation for High Cost Investigation Investiga-tion Defeated, Public Utilities Law Amended and Picketing Made Unlawful. Salt Lake City. The special session of the Utah legislature lasted jut a week and a day, the work being completed com-pleted near midnight, Monday, October Octo-ber 6. The session was called for the purpose pur-pose of disposing of two propositions, that of ratifying or rejecting the Susan B. Anthony amendment to the constitution consti-tution of the United States, and to make an appropriation that would enable en-able the attorney general to carry out the laws against combines and trusts In order that the high cost of living might be reduced by the inquiry so made. The amendment was ratified and the appropriation for the attorney general defeated. One of the last acts of the special session was to amend the public utilities utili-ties law so that a monopoly can be given to whoever concludes to build a railroad into the Uintah Basin. If Governor Bamberger gives his approval ap-proval to the bill passed by both houses of the legislature in the closing hours, picketing, such as has been practiced upon the streets of Salt Lake during recent months, will become be-come unlawful and the pickets subject sub-ject to fine or imprisonment.
