Show QUARTERLY CONFERENCE IS ILL ATTENDED HERE More than one thousand people attended at-tended the regular quarterly conference con-ference of the Norlh Sanpete Stake held at Mount Pleasants Saturday and Sunday June 21 and 22nd. President A. Merz and his coun-celers coun-celers were delighted in seeing the large number of people respond to the call made at this time. ) Among the speakers were Elders David O. McKay and Rulon S. Wells, of the general church authorities and Mrs .Julia P. U. Farnworth of the General Board of Relief Society, and Mrs. Ella Capener of the General Gener-al Board of the Primary Associations. Associ-ations. At the Priesthood meeting Satur-Diornlng Satur-Diornlng President Merz discussed subjects for the safeguarding of the young people. The public dance was one of the principal topics brought to the attention of fathers and mothers. A committee consisting consist-ing of Bishop A. E. Mcintosh, Bishop H. C. Jacobs, Bishop Samuel Allred, Bishop H. P. Hansen, Bishop Orlando Bradley, Bishop John Oldroyd, Mrs. Belva Cox, Mrs. Wilhelmina Erlck-sen Erlck-sen and Mrs. Mary Jane Aiken were appointed to wait upon the owners of the Fiddlers Green resort and discuss dis-cuss matters pertaining to the welfare wel-fare of the young people. The time for holding the sacrament sacra-ment meetings in the various wards of the stake was left to the bishops to determine in their respective wards. One of the interesting features of the Conference was the singing of the different choirs of the stake. Saturday afternoon the Mt. Pleasant South ward choir furnished the singing. sing-ing. Sunday Morning the Mt. Pleasant Pleas-ant North Ward choir did the singing sing-ing and Sunday afternoon the Fair-view Fair-view ward choir sang for the people assembled in conference. The meeting held Saturday afternoon after-noon was well attended. The choir sang "The Spirit of God Like a Fire is Burning." Prayer was offered by Elder Elam H. Anderson. The choir sang " Awake Ye Saints of God Awake." President Merz stated that this session was set apart for the Relief Re-lief Society and Primary associations, which have been doing an excellent work in the stake. Mrs. Mary Jane Aiken, president of the Primary Association, gave a report of. the condition of the Primary Pri-mary Association in the stake. Mrs. Ella Capener, representing the General Board of t he Primary Associations,, Asso-ciations,, exhorted the parents and officers to work hand in hand for the purpose of upbuilding the Primary association. She said that real service ser-vice consists of forgetting self for the good of others, "He Finds Much Who Gives Much For The Gospel's Sake." President SVilhelmlna Erlcksen reported the Relief Society work In the slake, and Mrs. Tlllle B. John-sen John-sen read a report of the general wards of the stake. Mrs. Julia Farnsworth of the General Gen-eral Board of Relief Society, approved approv-ed of the conditions of the North Sanpete stake. She said that there was no question today of so much importance as that of surrounding children with proper environment. It is necessary to know the company com-pany they keep and give them the proper kind of literature. President Merz highly complemented the organizations or-ganizations of the church. He advised advis-ed the young people to do their part in this noble work. Elder Andrew Larsen offered the closing prayer after the choir sang "Oh, Come Let Ua Sing." Sunday morning the trend of speaking was given for the interest of the young people on account of so many Sunday School children being present. The North ward choir sang "Jesus, I My Cross IL.ve Taken and prayer was offered by Elder Sor-. Sor-. en C, Nellson. "Abide With Me was rendered by the choir. President Presi-dent A, Merz stated that he had received re-ceived word that Elders David O, McKay and Rulon S, Wells would be ilere. , Mrs, Julia Farnsworth addressed the congregation ajid Miss Goldie Nellson sang a solo. Mrs. Ellen Capener spoke a short time and President Merz expressed his appreciation appre-ciation of the visit of the Ladies from Salt Lake, "One Fleeting Hour was sung by a Ladies chorus from the North Ward choir. Elder J. W. Anderson referred to the scourge of sickness which had passed over the earth during the past few months. He said that it was time to turn to the Lord. Stake Superintendent James W. Blain referred re-ferred to the inauguration of the Teachers Training Classes in the auxiliary organizations and encouraged encour-aged all the teachers to ba energetic in the preformance of their duties. . Elder Simon T. Beck of the Stake High Council advised the guarding of the young people and encouraged all to live according to the principles of the Gospel. Elder Daniel Rasmussen presented present-ed the General Stake authorities who were unanimously sustained by the people in conference Elder Rulon S. Wells of the' First Council of Seventy stated that there was no other way to be saved ex-cep ex-cep by obedience to the principles of the Gospel as revealed by ous Heavenly Father. He said that we were engaged in eternal progression 8ed 13 the Pson who has taith 'unto repentance Elder David O. McKay of the Council of Twelve asked the congregation congre-gation "What are the dearest things to you in all the world?" "What two possessions would you keep'" He prof erred the answer that 9 0 per cent would say first that they would keep their standing in the church and 100 per cent would take as the second choice, your loved ones. He said one never knows what the light of the Gospel is until we lose it, or come into contact with some one who has lost it. The remarks of Elder McKay were very interesting to the audience. The ohoir sang "Hope Thou in God" and Elder Byron By-ron A. Vance of Milburn closed the services by prayer. In the afternoon the Fairview ward choir sang "Lo, The Mighty God Appearing." Elder James E. Sorensen offered the opening prayer. The choir sang "Come Dearest Lord Decend and Dwell." Elder Harry G. Ericksen of Mt. Pleasant bore his testimony that the Gospel is ture. President Merz said that he rejoiced in the peparation being made for the coming of the Savior. He also rejoiced re-joiced in the loyalty of the authorities in this stake. The Fairview ward sang "Sing Ye Jehovah's Praises." Elder David O. McKay rejoiced in the spirit of the conference and commended com-mended the custom of encouraging the ward choirs. He presented his idea of truly religious life, Pure religion re-ligion and pundefiled before God is this, to visit the widow and the fatherless, fath-erless, to keep himself unspotted from the world and serve your fellow fel-low men, He said that he meant any one of your fellow men who eip. He referred to a statement state-ment of the Prophet Joseph Smith in which he said, "If my life is no value to my friends it Is of no value to me." He spoke of the success of the church organization and he said that if you want to serve best, do not negelect that ward teaching. He mentioned three conditions that hasten the contamination of young people. They were "Loss of parent control," Low ideals, and the public dance hall. He elaborated upon these .subjects.' Elder Rulon S. Wells admonished the saints to avoid even the appearance appear-ance of evil. He advised never to under-estimate the value of a good name. He said that It was a good thing to have a standing in the community com-munity where we live. He advised everyone to live a good life. The choir sang "Come, 0 Thou King of Kings The benediction was pronounced pro-nounced by Patriarch C. N. Lund. The conference Is one that will be remembered and appreciated by all who attended. |
