Show Arctic Light. At noon of December ?I, the shortest short-est and darkest day of the year, we could easily detect a faint glow of light in the south. The true dark-. dark-. ness of night Is a result of the complete com-plete disappearance of all traces of twilight, which orrnrs when the sun reaches a point of 18 degrees below the horizon. Our latitude wus 78 degrees de-grees 20 minutes, therefore the sun : at this time was only about 12 degrees below the horizon. From "Four Years In the White North." by Donald B. McMillan. |
