Show H Til 90 ! FAMILIES I IQlfllED Disease Seems to be Mild as Coni-' Coni-' pared With Its Original Appearance. After "having been free from the ravages of the "flu" since the first of February, Mt. Pleasant was suddenly sud-denly awakened to the fact that tho scourge had not entirely disappeared so far as this community is concerned, con-cerned, as Monday noon, when the first cases of the dread disease were reported, the town was again placed under strict quarantine, and all public pub-lic gatherings prohibited until the epidemic could be checked. After having been under quarantine quaran-tine for four months the ban was lifted February 3rd. when picture shows, schools, churches and other gatherings were again opened to the public. On February 22nd, Washington's Wash-ington's birthday anniversary, the first dancing party was enjoyed, and since that time the townspeople have felt secure in going about their business busi-ness in a normal manner. From the time the first case was reported last Monday, Quarantine Physician W. P. Winters, and former Marshal P. A. Poulsen. who is again at bis old post of looking after thoso in quarantine, have been kept busy both night and day caring for tho sick. The latest report that we can secure from Dr. Winters is that there are more than ninety families under quarantine for Inllueuza and between 200 and 300 cases have fully developed. develop-ed. There are also a large number of families placed under a five day quarantine, most, of which have been directly exposed to the disease. Nearly all the cases seem to be in a rather light form as there are but very few who have been seriously ill so far. As near as we can learn Fairview and Moroni are entirely free from Influenza and those under quarantine at Ephraim and Spring City are speedily recovering from the outbreak out-break of two weeks ago. It is to be hoped that this dreaded scourge may spread no farther and that in the course of a few weeks Mt. Pleasant will again be free from its ravages. |
