C last Saturday morning was avoided by the timelv stopping of the train, j The train was hardly out of the; yards when the accident happi'tid. j The following account is given by' one of the passengers: j As the last coach of our train was passing the track, running east, itj is supposed that some one threw j the swith, justin time to .catch the! rear truck of the hind car. The ! passangers realizing that somethig was wrong, made a rush for the doors only to find that they had been securely fastened by the twisted condition of the coach. The train was gaining speed and was near-ing near-ing a pile of ties, causing no t-mall amount of uneasiness among the imprisoned passangers, they realizing real-izing that sho.-ld the car strike the ti s' it would mean disaster and leath to many of its occupants. Just at this critical moment the conductor v ho had been in the smoker, arrived on the scene, grasping the situation lie immediately signalled the engineer, engi-neer, and the train was brought to a sudden stop. The windows were raised and the passengers relented, from what had appeared to them a moment before, an ineviatable death trap. With one exception, that a Mr. Hogan of Manti having his hands cut, the passangers excaped with out injury. The passangers were crowded into in-to the smoker and the train proceed j ed on its way. |
