Show EARLY PIONEER IS LAID PEACEFULLY AT REST Funeral services were held Tuesday Tues-day at the meetinghouse for George Brough, one of Spring City's oldest citizens, who died at the home of his daughter, Lizzie B. Allred, Sunday December 27, 1914, at 10:30 o'clock A. M. Mr. Brough was born at New Mal-ton, Mal-ton, Yorkshire, England, July 1, 1823. He became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in December 1848. February 7, 1852, Mr. Brough set sail in the ship 'Elen Mared' for the United States for the purpose of joining the Latter Day Saints in Salt Lake Valley. Val-ley. He arrived in Council Bluffs in June of that year and immediately joined a company which was teing made up to travel by ox-team for Great Salt Lake. This company arrived ar-rived in Salt Lake City, September 22, 1852. The following year, November No-vember 23, 1853, he moved to the town of Lehi, Utah, where he remained remain-ed until April 1860 when he moved to Springtown (now Spring City) in Sanpete County, Utah, arriving at the last named place on the fifteenth day of the month of April. Mr. Brough was alloted ten acres of land upon settling at Springtown. He was Postmaster of Springtown fifteen years, tithing clerk sixteen years, Justice of the peace for some time and Trustee of public school. He served in the Black Hawk War and in the Walker War. In 1882 he left home for a mission for the L. D. S. Church. He has been married four times, each one taking place after the death of the former wife. He married Harriet Humble Mace, February 22, 1850, who died In England. He married Elizabeth Hudeen, March 17, 1852, on board Bhlp. He married Margaret Osborne, January 17, 1884. He also married Elizabeth Mace, September 12, 1888. There are left to mourn the loss of Mr. Brough three sons and, a daughter, George W. Brough who lives in Box Elder county, Moroni Brough, Robert A. Brough and Lizzie Liz-zie B. Brough who live at Spring City, Utah, eighteen grand children and thirty four great grand children. |
