Show MIUTIA IS NOW j TO BECAVALRYj Capt. W. B. Wallace, Instructor of' the National Guard of Utah, attended the regular weekly drill of Company D at the Armory Thursday evening. He came here for the purpose of changing the company of militia to a troop of cavalry. He gave orders to this effect and the local troop was given the first instructions as a mounted troop under his personal direction. di-rection. In making the local company a troop of cavalry it win mean that the government will purchase thirty-two thirty-two head of horses for the men. This will not be done at once but it is probable that the right kind of horses may be secured within six months or a year. A big barn will be built on a suitable suit-able place near the city limits for the horses and capable men will be employed em-ployed to care for the animals. In the personel of the troop there will be eight sergeants and six corporals, cor-porals, a farrier, a horse-Bhoer, a saddler and a wagoner together with the regular officers. At present the men will have to be patient about getting their horses as there will be no animals purchased until after the annual encampment. They will, however, be furnished horses for the encampment. It is understood also that the band will become a cavalry band. They will not be furnished with horses however, except at encampments. |
