Saturday afternoon Mrs. Gilbert Mor.sen entertained at a birthday narty for her little daughter. Muriel. Twelve guests enjoyed the games and refreshments. Sunday. Elsie Larsen colei rare.l her seventy-ninth birthday. In the afternoon she enjoyed a drive in Mr. John Kellett's car. Later in the day her daughters. Mrs. Andrew Bradley. Mrs. Annie Blackham, Mrs. John Kellett. Mrs. Aaron Hardy and Mrs. Martin Bradley visited her. A luncheon was served after which they spent a few sociable hours together. to-gether. Miss Hazel Faux entertained Sat-1 urday evening at a parcel shower in honor of Miss Alice Morrison, a birdo-elect birdo-elect of June. Cards ?.nd games were played and dainty refreshments wer served. The invited guests were Miss Alice Morrison, Miss Merle Snyder. Miss. Bird Conley. Miss Roe Anderson. Mrs. Will Christensen, Miss Annetra Sorenson. Miss Eva Olson, Miss Edna Hardy, Miss Minerva Anderson and Mrs. Owen Beal. The annual May Day festival was given last Friday under tho direction of the Sunday School. Miss Mildred Morley was chosen Queen with Mar-iam Mar-iam Cooley and Vivian Anderson as attendants. A program wai given nt the tabernacle in the morning including includ-ing the crowning of the May Queen and the braiding of the May Pole. In the afternoon a dance for the voung folks was given at the pavilion, j Later in the day a base ball game between Moroni and Fairview was' played at the base ball J3rk. " A dance at night concluded tho celebration. cele-bration. ' The I. O. Larsen Oratorical Contest ' An appreciative audience, was in attendance at the D. O. Larsen Oratorical Ora-torical , Contest given at the High , school auditorium Thursday evening. ' Five of the high school students participated par-ticipated In the contest. Othniel Kellett Kel-lett received first prize. His Bubject was "The Reward of Persistence." Joseph Christiansen was awarded second prize. His subject was "Efficiency." "Effi-ciency." Clarence Jensen had chosen for his subject. "The Cigaret Habit." Randall Christensen's subject was. "Moroni Should Have a Four Year High School." Angus Black-ham Black-ham received honorable mention for his oration. His subject was, "Preservation "Pre-servation of Our Forests." The judges jud-ges for the contest were Supt. J. W. Anderson, Nathan Faux and Leland Frandsen. The first prize was a watch-fob for ten dollars given by Mr. Larsen. . The second prize was a pin for five dollars given by the school. A debate was given by high school students during the devotional period per-iod on Wednesday. The question was, "Resolved, That the United States Should put into Effect a Policy Poli-cy which would result In a Substantially Substan-tially Increased Armament." The affirmative debaters were Inez Mad-sen Mad-sen and Devona Jensen and the negative nega-tive speakers were Zelam Taylor and Stella Thomas. D. O. Larsen, Ervin Geo and Kills Draper acted as judges. 1 The question was ably treated by ull tho debaters. They presented their facts in a clear and logical milliner. The judges gave two votei in favor of the altlrmatlve side a'ld one vote for tho negative side. |
