Show Audiometer Tests Begin Starting Monday, March 6, 1944 hearing tests will be conducted in the North Sanpete School district. dis-trict. The testing will be done by the Public Health Nurses in cooperation with the school personnel per-sonnel and interested parents. The Audiometer or machine used to test the hearing, is the property of the Utah State Department De-partment of Health and is sent all over the state on a loan basis. Thirty children can be done at each sitting. The test consists of listening through a single earphone ear-phone on first the right ear, then the left ear, and writing the numbers which are heard in a series of columns. At the beginning begin-ning of each column the voice heard is very loud, but gradually fades as it nears the numbers toward to-ward the bottom. Because of this the amount of hearing loss or defect de-fect can be accurately measured. Those children showing a hearing hear-ing loss will be checked a second time to eliminate the chance of their having merely misunderstood misunder-stood instructions. Miss Lee, the nurse at the Wasatch Wa-satch Academy, will conduct the tests there with the Public Health Nurses assisting. There are approximately 1600 students to be tested starting with the fourth grades and continuing con-tinuing through the high school level. Because of the large number num-ber to be done, it would be impossible im-possible for any one person to correct all papers. For this reason rea-son the assistance of interested parents is solicited to correct these papers at the various schools while the tests are being conducted. After the papers are corrected the nurses will score them and give the recheck test to those showing an apparent hearing loss. A number and percentage re- , port will be published at the com- 'ipletion of the testing. |
