Oct. 26, when Senator Robert A. Taft of Ohio will speak at a public rally in the Manti theatre at 7:30 p. m. Son of the late President William Wil-liam Howard Taft, young Bob is one of the most influential Republicans Re-publicans in the present senate, and is prominently mentioned as a prospective presidential candidate can-didate in 1948. At the 1944 national convention con-vention as chairman of the platform plat-form committee he was considered consider-ed very friendly toward the west by Arthur V. Watkins, present candidate for Senator, and others representing western states. He will arrive in Salt Lake City Friday morning, Oct. 25, and after af-ter conferring with State Republi can chairman Vernon Romney and the various state candidates, he will motor to Provo where a luncheon will be followed by a public rally at the Academv theater. He will return to Salt Lake following this rally and after af-ter a series of conferences throughout the late afternoon he will address a public rally at the Newhoue hotel starting at 8 p. m. His address will be broadcast from 8:30 to 9:00 p. m. over KSL. Arrangements for Senator Taft's Provo visit were made by George Colard, Utah County chairman, formerly of Fountain Green. On Saturday, Senator Taft will motor with state Republican leaders and candidates to Sanpete San-pete county stopping enroute at Nephl for an afternoon meeting at 3 p. m. Continuing to Eph-raim Eph-raim he will be entertained at a dinner arranged by Mrs. Ruel Chrlstensen and then continue to Manti for the public rallv in the theatre at 7:30 p. m. The Manti band, directed by Devon Anderson, Ander-son, will play on the theatre steps as the crowd gathers and musical numbers for the program will be arranged and directed by Ellis E. Johnson, leader of the Manti choir. |
