Show FOREST NOTES By Forest Ranger Wells Tbursby Snow and Rain Recorded The month of October, 1946, brought more precipitation to this part of the country than has ever been recorded here during dur-ing any past October. At the Mammoth Ranger Station Sta-tion in Gooseberry, 6.45 inches of precipitation was recorded during October. This practically equals all the precipitation recorded re-corded at that same station during the months of May, June, July, August and September. The total precipitation recorded for those five months was 6.67 inches. The heavy storms of October will be a blessing to the farms and range lands next year. Most of the precipitation received re-ceived during the winter months will infiltrate into the soil. The ground on the mountain did not freeze before the heavy October storms. With the snow cover now protecting the soil from freezing all the water from the melting snows should therefore tie absorbed. |
