County Chairman Urges Local Farmers To Obtain Trees Farmers of Sanpete County who have filed intentions to plant forest trees as one of the practices under the 1940 Agricultural Conservation Con-servation program and who have . not ordered trees were urged today to-day by E. H. Anderson, chairman of the County AAA Committee to do so immediately. All farmers who expect to get trees from the Clarke-McNary Nursery at Logan should send in their orders at once as a deadline for receiving orders is May 1. Siberian Elm is leading in popularity pop-ularity for planting this spring. The nursery at Logan has received receiv-ed orders for 24,422 trees of this species. Russian Olive was next in pop-. pop-. ularity with orders for 19,402. Eastern Red Cedar was third with 12,512; Black Locust fourth with 10637; and Blue Spruce fifth with orders for 9,631. More than 100,000 trees will be planted this year in Utah from -; stock supplied by the nursery at Logan. These trees are furnished to farmers fo planting woodlots and windbreaks for not to exceed the cost of production. Payments under the AAA program pro-gram fo planting forest trees are at the rate of $7.50 an acre and a farmer can earn $30 in addition to any other AAA payment for .this practice, Mr. Anderson said. |
