Show Human Toll Qf Yiar In Vietnam In addition to almost wrecking the nation's economy, by bringing on inflation, devaluation of the dollar and other economic dislocations such as unemployment and recession, the cost of the ill-fated Vietnam Viet-nam war was tragic in human terms. THERE ARE, surprisingly, about 7,400,000 Vietnam Veterans-about a third having hav-ing served in Vietnam. Of those who were married when sent to the theater of war, about thirty-eight per cent were divorced or separated six months after their return. It's estimated some 175,000 have used heroin since getting get-ting out of the service. More than 13,000 of these veterans have been listed as a hundred per cent disabled for psychological reasons. OVER 50,000 died there; over 100,000 were wounded, many seriously. That adds up to an enormous price economically for the $150,000,000,000 spent on that war. |
