Show Committee Reviews 1940 Accomplishments A more fertile soil, a stabilized market for farm produtcs, an improved im-proved farm income, an abundance abund-ance of food and fiber, and an organized agriculture are the results re-sults of farmers and ranchers cooperating co-operating in the 1940 AAA Program, Pro-gram, said E. H. Anderson, chairman, chair-man, of the Sanpete county AAA committee as he reviewed some of the accomplishments of the 1940 Program which came to a close in Sanpete county October 31. He pointed out that through soil-building practices including the application of fertilizers, the seeding of soil-conserving crops, better grazing methods, erosion control and a better balance between be-tween soil-depleting and soil-conserving soil-conserving crops that the farms of Sanpete county are now in a better condition to serve the needs of the nation in national defense. A demand for an increase in-crease in the production of any crop could be met with the fertility fer-tility to grow the crop, Mr. Anderson An-derson said. Through the crop loan program the price of wheat has been held on a domestic basis. The marketing market-ing has been more orderly. Crop insurance has served to cushion the stocks of crop losses. Allotments Allot-ments have quaranteed to the small farmer his share of the national market and at the same time have tended to keep supplies in line with the needs of the consuming con-suming public. With better prices as a result of supplies in line with consumer needs and supplies stored in the Ever-Normal Granary result. ng n a more orderly marketing the farm income in Utah has more .haii doubled in the past seven or eight years. And yet there are adequate supplies of both food and fiber .o mjet the needs of a Nation as a bulwark in its national defense program. While European nations I . have been on rations for years m preparation for war and are now on the verge of famine as a result re-sult of war, the United States has plenty of food. Agriculture is organized and ready to serve the needs of the Nation. And how with the 1941 AAA Program farmers of Utah are prepared to go on doing their part in building up a stronger I nation, he declared. |
