Show FOUNTAIN GREEN I By Special Correspondence Fountain Green Boy Reported Missing In Yugoslavia Area Cpl. Orris A. Winters, son of Mrs. Gladys Winters is reported missing in action in Yugoslavia since February 7th. Cpl. Winters is a Nose Gunner anu Assistant Engineer on a B-24. He entered the Army Air forces December 21, 1943 and trained at Tynclall Field, Florida and West-over West-over Field, Mass., before going overseas in December 1944. Awaiting further word of his whereabouts is his mother and sisters, Irene, Betty and Voneal Winters oi Fountain Green. And nows comes the word to his family that Cpl. Winters has made his way back safely to his base of operations. , S.C. l'c Vero Guymon, son of Mrs. and Mrs. James Guymon of Fountain Green, has returned home alter three years of service in the South Pacific. Verno has received an honorable medical discharge from the San Leandro hospital in San Francisco, after being shell shocked at the battle oi Leyte. He has seen plenty of action, having took part in 13 major battles. He also has seen ana heard Gen. Douglas Mac-Arthur Mac-Arthur broadcast tljis message to the Filipinos: "Calling all Filipinos, stand by, we're coming in." The other brother, Robert Guymon, Guy-mon, G. M. 3'c is stationed in the South Pacific and has also been in the service for three years. Both brothers enlisted at the same time. Cpl. Emerson Cook of the A.A.F., son of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. H. Cook, has completed his training train-ing as a Gunner on a B-17 at ouez City, Iowa. Mrs. Beth Oldroyd, wife of Sgt. Jay Oldroyd, has received word that her husband has landed in New York City and will soon be removed to a hospital nearer home. Sgt. Oldroyd was wounded wound-ed in action over Germany. Fireman 2c Chadoris Jacobsen, son of Mrs. Orvilla Jacobsen, is spending a shore furlough here before returning to the South Pacific. Pa-cific. His ship was the U. S. S. Stake, Moroni; Mo-roni; Mrs. Gertrude Coulsen, Miss Mabel Madsen and Mrs. Emma Pierce, Salt Lake City; Miss Grace Madsen, Provo; Mrs. Evelyn Braithwaite, Spanish Fork; Mrs. Eldora Wilkey, Nephi; and fourteen four-teen grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted conduct-ed on Wednesday at 2 p. m. in the Fountain Green L. D. S. ward chapel by Bishop Gayle Yorga-son. Yorga-son. Mr. H. A. Fitzgerald of Ephraim, Eph-raim, County Chairman of the Red Cross work and Mrs. Cleo Johnson, chairman of this district were the speakers at Sacrament meeting Sunday, and their subject sub-ject was "Red Cross Work." A vocal solo, "Goodnight Soldier" Sol-dier" was given by Mr$. Lillian Snow,' with Mrs. YerW A. I,und accompanist, Mrs.J. L."iansen and Mra, Bar-dejl Bar-dejl Cellard have left for Ruth, Nevada where they will visit with their brother, Harry Holman and another brother, La Grand Hglman, who is leaving for the U. S. Service, Mr, and Mrs. James Guymon and daughter, Hazel accompanied their son and brother, S. C. lie Verno Guymon home from San Francisco. Home Economics Annual Banquet Approximately 250 people enjoyed en-joyed a musical program and banquet sponsored by the Home Economics club Thursday, Feb. 22 in the Municipal building. The program was under the direction di-rection of Mrs. Verda A. Lund and Mrs. Irene A. Hansen. A chorus of 25 ladies voices sang, "Bless That Flag," "Neopolitan" and "Victory"; a vocal duet by Karl Rasmussen and Bruce Nielson. Niel-son. They sang, "Yankee Doodle." Mrs. Hanna I. Wetmore sang, "I'm Falling In Love With Someone," Some-one," accompanied by the ladies chorus. A cello solo by Mrs. Wet-more Wet-more with Miss Dora Hansen as piano accompanist. A "Spanish Dance," was given by Mrs. Irene A. Hansen. Kenna and Iris Johnson John-son sang, "Don't Sit Under The ! Cherry Tree." Song and Dance, j (Trolley song), by Delores Lund. Talks were i given by Mayor Lyman Seeley I and retired H. E. Club President Pearl Holman. Gifts of appreciation for services serv-ices rendered were given by Pres. Lund and Reed Collard, Salvage Committee, was a great success with prizes awarded to the following: 1st prize went to Eugene Mik-kelson Mik-kelson and Merrill Anderson. 2nd prize to Carry Lou Aagard. 3rd prize to Irel Despain. 4th prize to La Rue Mikkelson. 5th prize to Ronald Collard. 6th prize to Frank and Ann Crowther. Mrs. Mary Frederickson has returned re-turned from Modesto, California, where she has spent the winter months with her daugther, Mrs. Myrtle Butts and family. Miss La Von Nielson of Moroni visited during the week with Mrs. Gladys Winters and family. At Sacrament meeting Sunday the follow ing new appointments were made: Ernest Bailey was appointed counselor to President Orvin Anderson in the Y. M. M. I. A. Presidency; Welby Aagard was appointed chairman of the Fireside Chat programs, with Clark Ivory and Ernest Bailey as assistants. Tne Fireside Chat was held Sunday evening at the home of Bishop and Mrs. Gayle Yorgason. A large number of ward members were in attendance and a very fine program- was carried out. |
