Show Future Farmers Return From Boulder Dam The North Sanpete chapter of F. F. A. returned Friday afternoon from their nine day outing to Boul der Dam, and scenic canyons or Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. Ari-zona. The weather was favorable throughout the trip and the whole company of forty-seven had a very enjoyable time and a lot of it. As was expected,' the Boulder Dam proved to be the point of greatest interest. The forenoon of July 22 was spent at Boulder City and the Dam under direction of a well informed and likeable young engineer, Mr. Nelson, as guide. Nelson explained the various activities activ-ities observed, answered fluently the many questions asked, and alsj touched on some of the engineering problems of which the general public pub-lic knows little or nothing.- Every part cf the big job is rapidly progressing, pro-gressing, with concrete being mixed and poured at a rate never before known in the history of the woria. The men on the job have plenty of cold water to drink and air-cooled rooms in which to sleep. Zicns, Bryces and the Grand Canyon were also . enjoyed. Side hikes and auto trips were taken and the regular evening programs and lectures were part of 'the routine. rou-tine. Out in Kaibab, at V. T. Ranch, Blain Sidwell demonstrated to the cowboys that the F. F. A. knew their horses by donning the boots and spuiis and mounting their nrize bucking horse. It didn't work out quite as anyone expected but Blain won the dollar prize. As the saddle was taken off a call came fur cne to ride him bare back and Morris Olsen quickly accepted the challenge and gave a splendid and successful demonstration of how cowboys should try to do it in the future. Evan Madsen directed a snappy program and dance, especially for the boys while there Wednesday maht. It was rather difficult to find enough partners for the P. F. A. although every girl for miles a-round a-round was on the job. So was every boy and each was putting forth no less effort than usual to keep his girl interested. The transportation charges fcr each member was three dollars, while other money spent was from $1.90 up to $13.00 per boy. Most Iboys spent four or five dollars. A number of lessons In budgeting were taught toward the end of the trip, when food and money both ran low, in some groups. |
