Show Plans Set For Annual Maple Canyon Day final Plans are now complete for ,! sixth annual Maple Day celebration cele-bration to be held Friday, June 22 it was announced here by Ernest r Anderson of Moroni, chairman "f the general committee planning the event. Indications are that a record attendance at-tendance will be present to enjoy the scenic splendor of the famous canyon and to be royally entertained entertain-ed by musicians, speakers and other notables from out of the state and within. Among the leading guests to attend at-tend will be Dr. L. M. Gould, Professor Pro-fessor of Geology at Carelton College Col-lege and a member of Admiral Byrd's Expedition to the Antartic In 1929, and Dr. WaUace Vickers, two noted American scientists who are in the state as university summer sum-mer school lecturers. Also expected to attend are "The Senator from Sandpit" of the Salt Lake Tribune editorial staff, who is to act as master of ceremonies at the program which will begin at 3 p. m.: P. C. Peterson of Ephraim, "the Danish comedian"; representatives represent-atives of the U. S. Forest Service; leading state officials, writers and educators, and special musical talent tal-ent from Salt Lake, the B. Y. U. at Provo and various towns In San pete. Mayor W. G. Frlschknecht of Manti has accepted an invitation , to deliver the address of welcome, and Principal Ellis D. Johnson of the Manti nigh school has again consented to lead in community singing during the program. ' Another feature of the program is the scheduled appearance of advance ad-vance violin students of John G. Hil-gendcrff Hil-gendcrff of Richfield, whose "baby band" from that city created a sen-;sation sen-;sation in Salt Lake the past winter. : Visitors will begin gathering from all over the state In the forenoon, and will visit the varied natural wonders of the canyon before the band program, which starts at 2 p. m. and continues until 3. Numerous Numer-ous attractions are there for them to see, but they will be urged especially es-pecially to pay a visit to the remarkable re-markable Box Canyon which shoots cff to the north at a tangent from the main canyon. ' Newcomers will find every minute of their time filled with delightful discoveries, and people making their annual pilgrimage will likewise be pleased by the improvements made since last yew better roads and trails, an amphitheater stage made of rock and cement to match the conglomerate rock' formations of the canyon walls, a fountain of the same construction, a community stove close to the spring surrounded surround-ed by twelve new tables, and a bonfire bon-fire site nearby. These and other improvements will add to the comfort com-fort of campers and program listeners. listen-ers. The band program alone will be a real treat. A hundred and fifty or more members of the different band organizations in the countv will offer the numbers, directed by leaders from the several communities communi-ties in the county, also from Nephi. The best musical ability available from the towns mentioned are also to favor the audience with Instrumental Instru-mental and vocal numbers. - rree conee will be served, but visitors vis-itors are to bring their own lunches. lun-ches. Last year over 3,000 people were present at the celebration, from all Points in the state, and over 540 cars drove up the canyon road. Indications point to a larger number num-ber this year. On the committee planning the occasion are two representatives of each civic club and the mayor of each Sanpete town and Nephi. |
