Furthermore, living standards in non-relief families In Sanpete cunty are unusually high. This information is released by Mr. Homer Ho-mer Wakefield of Provo, B. Y. U. graduate student, following completion comple-tion this week of a sccial survey of rural families covering Utah, San-p:-to and Duchesne counties. The survey began last December 27, under un-der direction of Dr. Lowry Nelson cf the "Y." Wakefield was in charge of a crew of six university students conducting the survey. Average Av-erage "Samplings" of 150 relief and 300 non-relief families were obtained obtain-ed in Sanpete county. Whi'e lewerip.g a lawn on tho John K. Madsen residence here last Friday, Joseph Davis was suddenly stricken with a severe pain in his right side, which -rendered him temporarily tem-porarily helples?. He was aided to his home, where he remained bedfast bed-fast for the succeeding several days. Around again now, he believes that the injury resulted frcm severe strain caused by the digging. Announcement is made that Mr. Ronald Brandon, well-known n North Sanpete as an automobile mechanic and as manager cf garages ga-rages in Mt. Pleasant and Fe.irview, has taken on the local Ford agency and is now ready for business in that capacity. Donald Drage, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Drage, was taken to a Provo hospital Tuesday the 27th, for an appendicitis operation. . Mr. O. K. Fotheringham, local telephone manager, appeared upon the streets this Friday with his customary cus-tomary smile even broader Ithan usual, the explanation being that the stork stopped off today to leave a baby bey at the Fotheringham home. Born also during the past week were: Sunday, March 25, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Max Coates, and a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Irving; Monday, the 26th, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Frandsen. - Thomas W. Jensen reminds farmers farm-ers of this region that the deadline date for signing corn-hog allotment contracts is April 14th. Mrs. Peter Frandsen and daughter Myrtle visited last week with Mrs. Frandsen's son, Alva, who has a fruit ranch cn Provo Bench. Miss Myrtle Frandsen accompanied accompa-nied several Gunnison friends into southern Utah week before last, returning re-turning home the fore part of last week. They visited at Richfield and Cedar City. Dr. W. P. Winters returned home Wednesday morning following a ten days visit in California. He visited at South Pasadena with his daughter, daugh-ter, Mrs. Tjouise Winters Evans, anti also went to Long Beach and Los Angeles while he was away. Miss Essie Jensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Jensen, left for Lcs Angeles last Saturday. She is going to stay with her aunt, Mrs. A. T. Leuenberger. Mrs. Leuenberg-er, Leuenberg-er, a daughter cf Mr;. Sarah D. Wil-c:x, Wil-c:x, was operated on in a Los Angeles An-geles hospital March 13. She is reported re-ported doing nicely. Mt. Pleasant music lovers were treated to two splendid concerts Tuesday, when the state agricultural college R. O. T. C. band appeared in the forenoon at the North Sanpete San-pete high school auditorium, in the afternoon at Johns Gymnasium. It is reported that the Junior and S2iiicr classes at North Sanpete high school have each contributed a hundred hun-dred dollars toward procuring uniforms uni-forms for the school band. Band members, the report says, are giving five dollars each. Approximately twenty dollars were cleared at the band dance here last Friday night, while about twenty-six dollars were netted at the Spring City baud dance earlier in the week. The uniforms uni-forms will cost about $680. Que Seely, sen of Mr. and Mrs. R. Bruce Seely, was honored at a farewell testimonial program and dance in the North ward Tuesday evening, prior to his departure for th2 North Central States L. D. S. Mission. Mrs. F. C. Jensen entertained at a beautifully appointed luncheon Monday, honoring Mrs. A. Throndson Thrond-son and Mrs. W. H. Gill of Cheyenne, Chey-enne, Wyo., who is a guest at the heme cf her son; Mr. S. H. Gill. Covers were laid for twelve with Easter decorations prevailing. Musical Mu-sical numbers were rendered during the afternoon. ' . Mr. M. E. Bernet of Denver, Colorado, Colo-rado, wa'j a Mt. Pleasant business visitor this week. Mr. Bernet is Vice President of The Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company, in charge of advertising. He expressed him,elf as being optimistic op-timistic over present indications of industrial recovery. |
