Show It's Time For the Fairs It is estimated that something like three thousands county and community fairs will be staged in the United States during the next few months. These community fairs will r?nge between the extremes of excellence rind worthlessness. Some cf them will merely be an excuse for che?.p carnival companies to set up midways mid-ways that are marked by various gambling devices and undesirable shows. Others will present instruction instruc-tion through educational exhibits and aid in the development of tiade and the upbuilding of the community commun-ity in which they are hj'd by the ;.:'Ograml set .'iirth. The managers and directors of every comtmunity fair have the op;icn of determining the character of the event, that they will stage. In this connection, it is (worth calling attention to the fact that the United States Government appropriates ap-propriates millions cf dollars for participation in large fairs, such as the exhibitions to be staged by San Francisco and New York in the near future. The Government, thro va ious departments, also participates partici-pates in various State fairs and, occasionally, oc-casionally, in seme cf the smaller events. If the Government can participate in the exhibitions held by the large cities and provide mdl-licns mdl-licns of dollars for so doing, we see no leason why the Government cannot make an appropriation each year of at least three to five million mil-lion dollars, to provide for educational educa-tional exhibits at the various county, coun-ty, cr community fairs in the nation. Of course, it will not be possible for the Government to be represented at every community gathering, but s:iT.ie participation is possible for hundreds of these fairs which, annually an-nually attract thousands and thousands of people. |
