The Japs, having Manchuria, decided to take Jehol. and they did. Having Manchuria and Jehol, they covet another state to the south, beyond the Great Wall, and they will probably end up with the possession of that Peaceful persuasion has not made any progress in stopping the Jap anese annexation of territory. Treaties previously made which guaranteed China's integrity have been entirely disregarded. The League of Nations has condemned the Japanese, but this is no presently pres-ently effective answer to airplanes dropping bombs, tanks splitting bullets, and infantrymen poking with bayonets. The Chinese, disorganized disor-ganized and inferior in equipment, are being "taken for a ride." Some day the Chinese will have a reckoning with the Japs. But, the day seems to be somewhere off in the distance. The powerful Occidental Occi-dental nations could help the Chi nese, but none of them care to venture a war. Interference with the Japs means war. However, because be-cause of the Japanese confidence and aggressiveness, we have a suspicion sus-picion that when the secret diplomatic diplo-matic archives are opened it will be found that some of the great powers agreed to allow the Japs a free hand. |
