Show Route Selected for Wagon Road Up North Creek Following a .survey of the ground which was cenducted Thursday, the Sanpete county commissioners and Supervisor J. W. Humphrey of the Manti National Forest agreed that the most .suitable site for a prcpescd canyon road leading from Mt. Pleasant to the tep of the mountains would be through North Creek canyonfl along the old Larsen Lar-sen coal road. North Creek canyon was recommended recom-mended by County Surveyor Clyde Whitlock as the mest jaiitable. Ii would have a grade of not to exceed ex-ceed 12 to 15 percent, as compared with one reaching a maximum of 20 percent through the Scuth Fork of Pleasant Creek. Other canyons lying between Twin Creek and Birch Creek were studied by Surveyor Whitlock during a three day survey, sur-vey, with the result that he favored fav-ored the North Creek route. The proposed read, which would cost an estimated $1,000 per mile and would extend for about nine miles, approximately three of them within Forest boundaries, will be undertaken when and if Forest and FERA approval is given, stated S. M. Nielsen, chairman of the county coun-ty board of commissioners, Friday. If the Forest department agrees to aid, an appropriation from the FERA will be sought to assist the county in improving the present road from the city limits to the forest boundary, which lies close to Tell Gate. Mt. Pleasant Is at present without with-out an improved highway onto tile mountains, and needs one badlv. Th3 proposed improvement ct the road mentioned would not only facilitate fa-cilitate travel to the Skyline Drive, but would make accessible a valuable valu-able csal deposit in Miller's Flat close to the old Larsen Mine, which might be converted into a community commun-ity coal mine, in the opinion of Commissioner Nielsen. Much timber and wood cculd also be hauled over it, and its feenie benefits tino would bo material. One of Its major ma-jor values would be to stcckmen. |
