Show Utah Metal Mines Respond To Nations Call ' H . 1. Responding to the call for increased in-creased metal production to meet war demands, Mines of Utah are leaving no stone unturned in an effort to supply the demand. In order to stimulate production of lower grade ores the Metal Reserve Re-serve Corporation and the office of price administration placed a premium prem-ium upon metal production in excess ex-cess of the 1941 output. While each metal producing company is subject sub-ject to individual quotas before receiving the bonus, metal mines never the less are going ahead, reaching into lower grade ore deposits. de-posits. The bonus does not mean or is not intended to increase the profits of the metal producing companies. It is intended to offer a market for low grade ores that could not be mined under the previous market. An example of this is the Park Utah Consolidated Mines company. which operates properties in the Park City mining region. During the past few years the Park Utah has been producing from the old Judge properties and has been one of the large metal producers of the state. The old Park Utah unit, served by the Ontario Drainage and Transportation tunnel which heads into the mountain from Keetley, Utah, has been closed down for the past 10 years due to the low prices of metals and the low metal content con-tent of the ore. When government agencies announced an-nounced that a premium would be paid for excess of quota-production, Park Utah immediately reopened the Ontario tunnel and its production produc-tion is now being added to the mighty war effort of the mines of Utah. There exists much low grade ore in the Park Utah that can be mined under the new premium prices and Park Utah, like other Utah mines responded to the call. |
