Show She Saw the Flag Hauled Down, Spit On The lady who has lately been in Salt Lake as ad vaneo agent for the movie, "Behind the Rising Sun," and who has seen with her own eyes while a prisoner, the awful brutalities of the Japs, savs, in effect: ' The saddest sight I have seen was when forced to stand and watch these heathens haul down my country's flag, lay it in the dust, trample it, spit on it, and then hoist their own emblem in its place in the breezes of heaven." We say to some men, "Be careful you are not doing do-ing this in your own hearts." That flag is the hope of this world today. It has never before flown in so great a cause. Wherever it goes down abroad it goes down in honor. There is only one place where it cpuld go down in dishonor and disgrace, dis-grace, and that is at home. When congressmen and senators and vicious columnists and newspapers, race riots, class hatred labor and capital troubles succeed in so dividing the people .that internal strife follows then, and not t'll then will that flag of our hearts go down in dishonor and disgrace. |
