HONOLULU: Military government govern-ment over the Territory of Hawaii gave way in part to civil government govern-ment after more than 15 months of army rule following Pearl Harbor. Martial law, however, remains in effect ef-fect and civil writs of habeas corpus cor-pus still are suspended. As restoration resto-ration of limited civil government became effective, there was no indication in-dication that Hawaiians were relaxing relax-ing their vigilance. ANKARA: The elevation of Col. Gen. Rudolph Haarde to the post of commander in chief of German forces in Greece, Thrace and the Aegean area was reported here. He succeeds General Stuntz who was reported to have died in a railway accident in Bulgaria in which sabotage sabo-tage was suspected. Haarde was described as a close friend of prominent promi-nent Bugarian military leaders. LONDON: Rumors that Adolf Hitler either was dead or had been Incarcerated because of violent attacks at-tacks of "paranoia" were current here and were attributed to Scandinavian Scandi-navian and European "underground" "under-ground" informants reporting to the British secret service. One informant infor-mant is said to have declared that it was fairly well established that Hitler had not been in Germany since he appeared at a rally in Munich, Mu-nich, November 8, and said the fact that he did not take part in the recent re-cent German-Italian conversations was evidence of his indisposition. |
