Show WHY NOT TRY AND GET TOGETHER ON I1ETTEK WATER SYSTEM. Talks the past few days with several gentlemen gentle-men connected with .coal companies operating nlong the Price river and its tributaries and also , above and beyond this stream, still further con-J vincc The Sun that the city council hero is going! after this better and purer water matter in the i wrong way. What is true of Price also holds goodin the litigation begun by Helper along the same lines against Pleasant Valley Coal company, com-pany, the Denver and Rio Grande nnd several others. Tuesday cvonlng's action of thccouncil in unnnimously passing the matter up to its attorneys at-torneys is but the beginning of endless litigation, because once the fight is on it means n finish. "The other fellow," ns the saying is, "has just as much money ns have we." That it will be spent goes without saying until the highest court is reached nfter many delnys, vexations and ex pense. Tiic Sun knows it to be n fact that several interests in-terests are ready to treat with the city of Price if a committee, for instance, from the council or of the business men hero would meet n like representation rep-resentation from one or more of the defendants In the suits already begun and now well on their wny. The mining companies or the men who control or conduct them assert that they arc as much interested in good wntcr as arc the inhabitants inhab-itants of Price nnd Helper. This Tho Sun believes be-lieves to be sincere. Price nnd Helper wanting good wntcr. and also the coal companies, it ought not to be difficult for all to get together on some eQuItable plan and proceed to obtain it. The coal company representatives aver that they have never been approached by committee or nny, representative of either the city of Helper Hel-per or' of Price. This being the case, how are they to know of nny grievances except in the legal complaints filed? And, were it tho case that In the past they had Ixien approached and no encouragement received, tilings change, and what wns the case yesterday might bo entirely different today. If the several communities concerned con-cerned can get together it is decidedly the best thing for all that could be brought about. The money spent in litigation would go a long ways towards a water system for the communities I from Cameron to the west to Wellington on the east before the end is In sight. Price and Helper each have spent a thousand dollars in the cases now pending. It is asserted that this will be all they will be expected to expend. ex-pend. Tho Sun doubts it. Referring to Price alone, it Is not yet too late to work along the lines suggested. Rigger things than this wntcr supply sup-ply havo been settled to the satisfaction and benefit of all interested parties before going into the courts. So far as the thousand dollars' attorneys at-torneys fee goes, it is but a drop in the bucket. The city can afford to lose it If arrangement can be made as will bring about the building of such a wntcr system ns all of us coal camps and Price nnd Helper arc in need of and some day will havo to construct collectively or individually. The Sun advocates and believes that tho people peo-ple here, as represented by forty-seven residents nnd UtxpaVrs of Price who petitioned the council last Tuesday evening, should meet these defendants defend-ants in a spirit of fnirncss and friendliness 'and discuss matters. It means money in the end, belter feelings among all concerned, the expenditure expendi-ture of big sums of money among the people nnd n bigger nnd better Price, Helper and, Carbon I county. Let's try nnd get together. |
