The district forester announced today that I the secretary of agriculturo has decided definitely to Increase the fees for grazing live stock upon the national forests of the intcr- mountain district during 1917 n flat 25 per cent. I It was the original plan to increase the fees for this use of tho forests M 1-3 per cent each year for the next three years, Uiub doubling the present fees at the end of the third year. In announcing an-nouncing the secretary's decision In the matter, It is further stated sta-ted that increases in following years will be based upon a further ; study of conditions. Receipts from grazing of live stock within the intcrmountain district for the season of 101G nmounted to approximately $362,-000. $362,-000. With 25 per cent Increase, they wjll reach a total of at least $150,000 during 1917. Thirty-five per cent of oil receipts from tho sale and use of national forest resources are now returned to he states and counties in which tho forests' are located for road and school purposes, so that the increase in grazing fees also means a 25 per cent increase in these returns to states and counties. |
