Show PROTEST AGAINST SENATOR SMOOT SENT TO MEMBERS OE THE SENATE ,B C. G. Patterson, a deputy in the office of tho county clerk of 'BBBM Salt Lake county, has sent a protest against tho Beating of United BBBB States Senator Reed Smoot in the Sixty-fourth congress to each BBS member of tho senate. In his protest he states that Senator Smoot BBBM was re-elected on account of tho Influence exerted in his behalf by BHMBt tho Mormon church, and that It constituted a violation of tho civil Bft& liberty of the citizens of the United States. BBBM About n yenr ago Patterson filed a similar protest with Senator BjBBj John W. Kern of Indiana, chairman of the sennte committeo on 'BBBM privileges and elections, but no action was taken. Now he has re- VHBBB newed his protest, sending it to each member of the senate. It is 'BV much like the first effort he put forth, which only occasioned fBBBM .smiling ridicule even on the part of some of his friends. kflB Patterson was secretary of tho Utah Voters Information tSMMK league until recently. The league is in no way connected with tho BMBf) protest against tho seating of Senator Smoot, according to Its 'BBBB officers.' Patterson has also issued "An Appeal to tho Citizens of BMMt Utah," asking them to back him up in his protest. |
