Show Timpanogos Stake Conference Well Attended Last Sunday; Elder John Longden Speaks At both general sessions of the Timpanogos stake quarterly conference the large tabernacle was well-filled, at the morning session there were 788 and at the late session, 925. Elder John Longden, assistant to the council of Twelve, presided, and President Merrill N. Warnick conducted the morning session. The session opened with the choir and congregation singing, "We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet." Invocation was offered by Glen Kocherhans. The Fourth ward choir, directed by Ford M. Paulson, with Alice Judd at the piano and Rosalie Richards at the organ, sang two numbers, "The Story of Old," and "My God and I." President Warnick as the first speaker and gave a review of the past, completion of the stake house, purchasing of the Welfare farm, remodeling of the seminary. semin-ary. Also in increase in membership member-ship of 207. President Radmall chose as his text the Parable of the Lost Sheep. President Lewis Olpin, in bear-ing bear-ing his testimony chose to stress the idea that we all have a service ser-vice to perform. The congregation sang "Sedeem-er "Sedeem-er of Israel," and the time was turned over to Elder Longden, who opened his talk by singing "I'll Go Where You Want Me to Go." He read the thirteen articles ar-ticles of faith, stressed the need for religious teaching, and said great men have been spiritual men. The Fourth ward Choir, with Mrs. LaRee Sanders, soloist, sang "The Holy City." Elder Floyd Hilton Hil-ton pronounced benediction. At the 7:30 session, president Lewis E. Olpin conducted. The congregation sang "The Spirit of God, Like a Fire is Burning." Invocation In-vocation was offered by Harold Penrod. The Elders Chorus, with Stanford Stan-ford Ekins, soloist, sang "Let the Lower Lights Be Burning." They were directed by E. A. Beck, accompanied ac-companied by Rosalie Richards, organ, and Hal Haycock, piano. President Warnick presented several names for release after which Stake Clerk Ertmann conducted con-ducted the business of sustaining officers. Among the speakers of the evening ev-ening were Thelma and William Freeman, recently released from the Southern States mission, Oliver Oli-ver Jonnson, Stephen Warnick, and Ray S. Merrill. The congregation sang "Come Come, Ye Saints," and Elder Longden Long-den was the concluding speaker. He gave a powerful discourse on missionary work in the church, bringing out the fact thata every member of the church is a missionary mission-ary in his every word and action. The Elders chorus, with Warren Kirk as soloist, sang "An Angel from On High." Howard Green offered of-fered benediction. At 2:30 in the afternoon, Priesthood Priest-hood Leasership meeting was helt in the stake tabernacle. A special meeting was held Saturday Sat-urday evening for senior aaronic priesthood members and their partners. During the conference several changes were made in the stake officers. The stake relief society was reorganized with Florence O. Gillman, president, Venace Merrill, and Norma Armitstead, counselors counsel-ors and Thelma Freeman, secretary. secre-tary. Released were Margaret Olpin, Ol-pin, president, Ruby Fugal and Louie Gillman, counselors and Ad-ena Ad-ena Swenson, secretary. Roy Harris was made secretary of Stake Sunday school, replacing replac-ing Willis Larson, released. Also released were Mahlon Smith, president Fourth quorum of Elders and his assistants Verl Christiansen and Ted Young, secretary. sec-retary. They were replaced by Harold Keetch, new president, Ted Young, first counselor, and Verl Christiansen, second counselor, with Tyler Rogers, secretary. A new quorum was organized wtih Kenneth H. Gillman, president, presi-dent, Howard Green, first and Eric Peterson, second counselor, and Dale Gillman, secretary. |
