Show Antoine R. Ivins Is Timp. Stake Conference Visitor First general session of the Tim-panogos Tim-panogos Stake quarterly conference confer-ence at 10 a.m. Sunday was well attended. Elder Antoine R. Ivins of the First Council of Seventy, representing the General Authorities Authori-ties of the Church, presided and Stake President Boyd L. Fugal conducted. The session opened with the combined stake choir and congregation con-gregation singing "How Firm a Foundation," directed by stake chorister, Irwin Jensen, with Hal Haycock at the organ. Invocation was offered by Ray Pulley. Special combined chorus of Pleasant Grove First, Pleasant Grove Fourth, Lindon, Lindon Second and Manila, sang "My Lord is Waiting in the Garden." Pres. Boyd L. Fugal .first speaker, speak-er, Introduced the theme of the conference, saying "The incentive of misionary work of the church is the desire of members to make available to the people of the world and share with them the blessings and happiness that come from within the Church." Second speaker, speak-er, Robert Sharp, told in meak-ness meak-ness the story of his conversion, and bore a strong testimony. Next speaker was Ray Shields who reported re-ported on his recent mission. Heard next was Dr. Roy G. Fugal of Connecticut and New York, who is attending a special management conference at BYU. He gave statistics on how the membership of the LDS Church has grown in the East within the last 20 years. Another featured speaker was Lester B. Whetton of the Church Education program, who explained explain-ed the work of the church in those lines. Concluding speaker was Elder Antoine Ivins who brought the message from the General Auth- orities and bore -strong testimony of the benefits and blessings of missionary work. In closing the combined chorus sang "God of Our Fathers." At the 2:30 session, Pres. Fugal conducted. The choir and congregation congre-gation sang "Now Let Us Rejoice". At this session the combined choir represented Grove, Pleasant Grove Second, Third, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Wards, who after invocation invoca-tion by Ross Brady, sang "Praise Ye the Father." Business of releases and new appointments was handled by Pres. Fugal. First speaker was Pres. Elwood Allen, who stressed the blessings and good that come from missionary work. He was followed fol-lowed by Pres. Ertman Christen-sen, Christen-sen, who compared missionary work to lighted candles if the flame goes out, it leaves darkness. Report of his mission was made by Robert Gammon, now of Orem who received his call from this stake. The combined chorus and congregation sang "Secret Prayer." Pray-er." Donald Williamson, a recent convert, con-vert, told of his conversion to the LDS Church and of the peace and happiness it brought. Elder Whet-ton's Whet-ton's talk at this session was an appeal to youth to be true to the teachings of the gospel. Ilder Ivins stressed the responsibility of parents par-ents and admonished them to teach the gospel by their works. The ohoir sang "Father in Heaven, Heav-en, We Do Believe," with J. Howard How-ard Nelson, reader. Benediction was by Robert H. Penrod. New officers sustained during the afternoon session of the conference con-ference on Sunday were: Second counselor in the Relief Society presidency, Hazel H. Bullock, Bul-lock, replacing Vida F. Conway, who has been made president of Fourth Ward Relief Society. As president of the Sixth Quorum Quor-um of Elders, John Warren Harris; Rollo Blackhurst, first counselor; Elvin Ray Brown, second counselor; counsel-or; Kenneth Unthank, secretary. They replace Earl Matthews, president; presi-dent; LaMar' Beveridge, first, and Ernest Nelson Turner was named nam-ed to the 141st quorum of Seven- ty. |
