Show U of U Slates Two Productions in Summer Festival Under starry Utah skies, audiences audi-ences in Stadium Bowl of the University of Utah will watch performances of the hit Broadway Broad-way musical "Brigadoon," and the most popular of all Italian . " " ' ' - r - CHRISTINE MATHEWS . . . lead role in musical operas "II Trovatore." U of U Summer Festival will present "Brig-adoon," a fantasy about a Scottish village that comes to life one day each 100 years, nightly at 8:30 pjn., July 6-11. Lyrics are by Alan Jay Lemer with music by Frederick Loew, the same two who wrote "My Fair Lady." The following week, Giuseppe Verdi's opera "II Trovatore" will be presented on the Summer Fes-tiva Fes-tiva lstage July 15, 17 and 18 (Wednesday, Friday and Saturday) Satur-day) at 8:30 p.m. Three nationally nation-ally known operatic celebrities will be starred in this English version of the famous opera. Dead roles of "Brigadoon" will be re-created on the Stadiuim Bowl stage by Christine Mathews Math-ews and David Atkinson. Both ' i4 DAVID ATKINSON ... to star in Festival are well-known for these roles in other parts of the country. Mr. Atkinson returns to Stadium Bowl by popular demand as a result o fhis Summer Festival performance last year. For "II Trovatore," Irene Kra-marich, Kra-marich, John Druary and Virginia Virgin-ia Copeland-Gordon will sing the roles with which (they are eminently emin-ently identified. Mail orders for tickets now are being accepted at the Univer sity of Utah Field House, or tickets tic-kets are on sale at the field house or The Salt Lake Tribune box offices. Prices are the same as last year for either an individual indivi-dual show or for a combination rate to both shows. |
