Show Editorial . . . "OUR BROTHERS KEEPER" In these days of universal unrest and uncertainty, it's comforting that the mothers of fatherless children have a place to turn for substantial aid and assistance, when untimely untime-ly death removes the bread-winner of the family. It's the American Social Security System. Under the benevolent provisions of this progiam a widow and her children, even with no bank account or other tangible property, have an "inheritance" that could run into thousands thous-ands of dollars. Since payments to the children will continue until each . is 18 years of age and to the widow for life, the total to a family of three young children could amount to over $60,000. Also, it is all tax free. That's quite an important legacy. No doubt we are doing more to live the Christian way of life than we often take time to contemplate. In referring to the sick, aged and to helpless children, Jesus said, "Unless ye have done it unto the least of these, my brethren, ye have not done it unto me." We Americans may be careless and thoughtless lovers of luxury and leisure; but at least we continue to be mindful of the unfortunate. r- Does Communism have anything even approaching this to offer? |
