Some farmers dry and store hay in the same building where feeding takes place. Getting all or a part of this farming operation under "one roof" would seem to be desirable in most instances. Often this can be done without too many alterations, provided that the proper equipment is installed. The pictures with this on-the-farm report show how one farmer handled his hay drying problem with his existing dairy barn. He wanted to dry green hay in a hurry. Also he steel sheets. Heated air from a crop dryer is blown into a duct under the floor. The dryer is located in a shelter shel-ter outside the barn, with a canvas tunnel extending from it to the duct opening. A 7'i horsepower motor operates the blower, and heat is provided pro-vided by an oil burner. In colder climates it may be necessary to arrange ar-range for closing in tiie dryer shed to protect the equipment during the winter months. Three cuttings of hay are dried each year at a total cost of less than 10 cents a bale. Each cutting is dried in from 33 to 40 hours.
