Show Lindon Wins Junior Softball Championship Over Second Coach Keith Wilkinson's face reflected happiness and pride Monday, Mon-day, July 25, when his winning team walked away with the Tim-pangos Tim-pangos Stake Junior Softball Championship along with a score of 26 runs. The coach did not deny that his Lindon Ward team was a bit jittery jit-tery at the start of the game the first inning to put it straight, when Pleasant Grove Second Ward team came up with two runs. However, by the end of the 2nd inning the champs had not only calmed down and warmed up, but had gained 9 runs over their opponents, thus making the score 11-2. By the end of the 4th inning Pleasant Grove's team had added another two runs which made their final score four against the plucky Lindonites' final of 26. Of the nine games played by Coach Wilkinson's team, eight were won, two by forfeit. Ironically Ironi-cally enough, the only game lost was to the same Pleasant Grove opponents some time back. This breathtaking game Monday night showed how determined a defeated defeat-ed team can be to win over a team who had already downed them. When asked to name the best players on his team, Coach Wilkinson Wilkin-son replied: I can show no favoritism. favorit-ism. I'm proud of their pl.-iying; without one of them we could not have won the game. The catching of seemingly impossible flics was outstanding." Although the Coach would not disclose his views, the boys voted Nyle Shumway as the best player on the team. In American Fork at the high school ball field the Lindon champs will meet the East Provo Stake winners next Monday, August 1, at 7:00 p.m. |
