Show Heptachlor Registered for Spray Use in Alfalfa Weevil Control It will soon be 'time to begin alfalfa weevil control, provided land is dry enough to permit spray equipment to operate. W expect alfalfa growers in the county to greatly step up their weevil control program this spring. County Agent Clair A- cord said. This expectation is bas-Kl on the fact that both hei tachlor and dieldrin are again registered for use as sprays by the U. S. Department of Agriculture. Agri-culture. Dr. George F. Knowlton. UtP-h State University Extension entomologist, en-tomologist, has received official word of the new VS. Dept of Agriculture clearance for use of heptachlor for alfalfa weevil control con-trol in veiy early spring. It reads as follows: "Make only one spray or granular gran-ular application of 4 ounces of actual heptachlor per acre In early spring before the new growth exceeds 2 inches. Do not harvest or graze within 30 days of application." The spray treatment, using 1 pint or 25 per ecnt heptachlor emulsifiable concentrate, or 1 and 13 pints of 18 per cent dieldrin.
