Show "The King and I" Slated to Open Monday at U of U "The King and I," justly ranked rank-ed as one of the most colorful of all Broadway musicals, opens in the University of Utah Stadium Bowl Monday (July 2) Performances will continue thru Saturday, July 7, with curtain time at 8:30 p.m. Patricia Morrison will star as Mrs. Anna, English school teacher teach-er to the wives and children of a proud but conscientious Siamese king of the 1860s. The role of the King will be sung by Jose Duval and that of his "number one wife" by Dorothy Samoff. Miss Morrison and Miss Sarn-off Sarn-off have sung in U. Summer Festivals Fes-tivals before, the former in 1952's "Kiss Me, Kate" and the latter in "Faust" in 1950. Production director is Dr. Dow-ell Dow-ell Dees with Maurice Abravanel as musical director and William F. Christensen as choreographer. Favorite tunes such as "Shall We Dance," "Hello, Young Lovers," Lov-ers," "We Kiss in a Shadow," "Whistle a Happy Tune" and many others highlight the score of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. musi-cal. Also featured is the famous "Uncle Tom's Cabin" ballet sequence, se-quence, one of the great modern ballets of the American theatre. "This is the cleanest, most refreshing re-freshing musical play to come from Broadway in many years," said Dr. Lees. "We have a cast that has been hand-picked by Rodgers and Hammerstein, so we can promise prom-ise unforgettable entertainment." The play is based on the bestseller best-seller "Anna and the King of Si-am" Si-am" which was made into a movie and then appeared in new form on Broadway and is now being filmed again in the play version a unique theatrical history.
