Show Worrying Parents Urged To Have Ftlore Children CHICAGO Here is a "sure cure" for worry-bird parents of an only child: "Have at least two more children, preferably girls." It was suggested by a survey of letters received by The Parents' Consultation Service from parents in 36 states and the Territory of Hawaii. Of the parents who queried the Service during a 12-month period, only about five per cent stated that they had three or more children. Twenty-nine per cent reported having hav-ing two children, while more than 49 per cent indicated that they had one child. The remainder of those writing for advice failed to specify the number of children in their family. About 51 per cent of the children involved were identified by the writers as boys, in comparison to the 37 per cent who were identified as girls. The sex of the remaining nine per cent was not given by the correspondents. In connection with the survey, Dr. Martin L. Eeymert, Ph.D., Consultant Consult-ant for the Service and Director of The Mooseheart La' oratory for Child Research at Mooseheart, Illinois, Illi-nois, points out: "The fact that parents of only children, particularly mothers, probably have more time in .which to write to the Service, should also be considered in evaluating the emotional attitudes of these parents." |
