Show City Is Insalling 4 Inch Pipe In Two Section of City To Handle Increased Water Needs Work is now in progress replacing replac-ing culinary water pipe lines in two sections of PI. Grove from one-inch to four-inch cast-iron pipe to take care of reisential building greater use of water, it was announced by Neils Fugal, chairman of the city council committee com-mittee on city water. Ttie work, which started Tuesday Tues-day morning, is being done by one trencher operator and three pipe layers. Starting on the corner of Second North and riming to Third North on Fifth East, east from Fifth east to Seventh East on Fifth North, one inch pipe is being- replaced re-placed by the four-inch size. In this district two new fire plugs are being installed. The changeover and greater fire pro tection are a result of growth of the section, now 12 houses, and the prospect of a new subdivision Councilman Fugal said. The other one-inch line to be replaced with the larger pipe is located between Third and Fourth East of Third South. Another fire plug will be installed in that area to service the 12 homes now built there. Cost of pipe per running foot, labor and installation, will be $1.60 for a distance of 2400 feet, making a total cost of of $2840. Cost of buying and installing three fire hydrants will be approximately $300, Councilman Fugal stated. The present pipe is entirely inadequate in-adequate due to the growth of the sections, and the prospects of even more homes in those areas, he concluded. |
